Director's Statement

Geovanno Mozes
“Dad decides to die” is an attempt to represent the experiences of many friends and relatives who struggle with their relationships with their fathers, told from a son’s perspective. As a director, I want to explore how conflicts between fathers and sons are inherited from one generation to the next, within an environment where men are expected to become the heads of their families.
The film follows the journey of a character named Putra, who learns to express emotions he has long kept buried.
I invite the audience to feel anger, confusion, and laughter at the absurdity of a father's mind shaped by a different generation and ideology. Through this, I want the audience to realize that, whether we like it or not, we must accept the flaws of a father who is unable to show his vulnerability in front of his family. Ultimately, the hope is that we do not repeat our fathers' mistakes and instead learn to be more open with our families

Doan Fickri
“For you, for all of you, for the children, for my wife, for the family.”
These words are rarely spoken by a father in a serious context, yet children often feel their presence through the implications of every decision he makes.
Behind each decision, there is always the lingering question: “Why did he make that choice?” without ever finding a concrete answer. make that choice?” without ever finding a concrete answer.
In the process of making this film, I seek to dive into the communication breakdown between two generations within a family that are often occurs.
I want to show that behind every unspoken word and every misunderstanding, there lies a deep longing for mutual understanding and a desire to reconnect.
